The Troll under this Bridge

As anyone knows, who knows anything at all, wherever there are bridges, there are trolls. They keep things tidy and collect their tolls. A penny per person who passes by is a fair price for a well kept bridge.

Now, this bridge isn’t anything special, although its troll isn’t like any other. He’s not especially strong. Or especially ugly. Not especially fearsome at all. The troll who lives here is especially shy. He’s far too bashful to ask for his penny. He shuffles his feet and scuffs his shoes and wrings his great big hat in his great big hands and hopes that someone’ll pay a penny for all his efforts.

They rarely do.

But if the bridge looks well when you pass for a stroll
Toss a penny for an especially shy troll.
